"Who Do You Say that I Am?"
When the wind blows, and the newborn cries
When at death's door, and when in pain
When you want to hide, and have no place to go
When all you know has fallen away--
Who do you say that I am?
When you want to cry;
When you're all alone
When the storm's all over, and the damage complete
When the sight of fear is the sight of man--
Who do you say that I am?
When the river runs dry and the sun parches lips
When all you have known turn their backs to you
When the wind is howling,
Or the seas roar
Who do you say that I am?
When does life begin? When does it end?
Is it predestined, or completely your choice?
Are plants and animals only for humans?
Or are humans remiss about their own import?
When no answers come, who do you say that I am?
When death is looming at the hospital door
And the world keeps moving like all is the norm
When life comes,
And life goes
Who do you say that I am?
When you deny me in public,
Deny me in schools
When you teach the young there is no recourse
When they take their lives rather than face the emptiness--
Who do you say that I am?
When there's no place to run,
And no place to hide
When the planet's time is up in a moment of choice
When a single decision determines your course--
Who do you say that I am?
I Am the one you will return to. I Am abiding peace.
I Am the light in the darkness. I Am the port in the storm.
I Am here when all else fails you.
I Am here at beginnings and ends.
I Am all that is left when nothing else remains.
I am your Source, to which you'll return
I Am Alpha,
And Omega, too
I will be your only comfort.
I will be there when you awake.
For, I Am always with you,
Recognized or unrecognized
I am what you want even when you reject all
I am the light in the darkness that does not rely on the sun.
I am the hope in your heart when there is no reason to hope.
I am the rain that cools,
And distributes over the earth
All the seedlings that grow.
I am the reason, the reason to live
When humanity is only a memory.
For humans deny,
And humans partake
They make mountains of molehills, and molehills of mountains
They seek pleasure all day, and avoid pain at all costs
While remaining oblivious to consequences their choices will drive.
So, don't cry for humanity when it cannot continue
Others are waiting patiently to overtake them
Their freedom lost, their pleasures denied
They failed to listen; they failed to take heed.
But, now they Know who I Am.
